Location and Transfer
Rasdhoo is a local Island in Maldives, located about 35 miles (65 km) west of Malé Airport, from where you can travel to Rasdhoo by speed boat twice every day, either in the morning at 10 am or in the afternoon at 4 pm. The speed boats normally depart directly in front of the airport terminal, and the duration of the journey will take minimum 1 hour and 10 minutes, depending on the weather.
The other option for traveling to Rasdhoo is by local ferry. On Mondays and Wednesdays the local ferry normally departs at 9 am from Vilingili Ferry Terminal in Malé and takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes to reach Rasdhoo. On Sundays and Tuesdays the public ferry normally depart at 11 am from Rasdhoo Habour (picture above) to Malé. Attention: The public ferry can be cancelled at short notice! We recommend you to take one of the speed boats, in order to reach your international flight.
In Rasdhoo you can find a good infrastructure with kids playgrounds, many supermarkets, souvenir shops, a bank with ATM, a post office, a pharmacy, a police station and even a small hospital. Rasdhoo is a small island, with about 1600 feet (500 m) in length and about 1900 feet (600 m) in width. The population is between 1000 and 1500. Nowadays, there are many public waste bins on the island, that's why the streets are free from any waste and the island is neat. Most of the locals sweep the area around their houses every morning.
The local currency is Maldivian Rufiya (MVR) and the official bank exchange rate is 15.42 MVR for 1 US-Dollar. Important: The exchange rate can be less for small US-Dollar Notes! You can withdraw only MVR from the ATM, but there is a daily limit of 10,000 MVR (about 650 USD). The service fee is 100 MVR for each withdrawal, so better make sure not to get too small amounts. Almost all the guest houses offer free WI-FI, but on certain times the internet speed is very slow. If you need constantly fast internet, you should buy a local SIM-card at the airport, as it is not always available on Rasdhoo.
